Jorge Santo Latin American percussionist at a Conga drum

Jorge Santo giving a conga drum lesson

Discover your inner rhythm!

I teach principally those instruments that involve 'skin-to-skin' contact such as the tumbadoras (conga drums) and bongo drums, from complete beginner to advanced. In addition I teach the use of claves, cowbell, timbales and bata drums.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes in length, and focus on topics including rhythm, feel, hand position, tone and tuning, as well as developing relaxation, coordination and concentration.

Alongside the mechanics of playing the instrument I teach Cuban rhythms such as Bolero, Cha-cha-cha, Son, Mambo and Rumba, and the role of the instrument in each of these styles.

More teaching

I provide all instruments during lessons, and can offer you advice on purchasing your own.
